Public Sector Covid-19 Volunteering Opportunities 

Our Public Sector Authorities have set up volunteering pools across the region to help respond to COVID-19. Our Authorities urgently require volunteers to help deliver key services to the local communities. Many authorities have partnered with voluntary sector organisations and community groups working to support local people living within their local area. If you would like to volunteer or share amongst your own networks the opportunities available across the West Midlands Region, then here is a useful summary for you.

WEST MIDLANDS PUBLIC SECTOR COVID-19 VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES 

Birmingham City Council

Partnered with BVSC, who are co-ordinating action across the city both via companies and community groups.

Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council

Dudley CVS is co-ordinating local COVID-19 efforts to help establish six COVID-19 Support Networks for each of the following geographical localities: Sedgley, Coseley and Gornal, Dudley and Netherton, Kingswinford and Amblecote, Brierley Hill, Stourbridge, Wollescote and Lye, Halesowen and Quarry Bank Open to individuals, organisations or groups who would like to be part of a virtual COVID-19 Support Network to explore options for mobilising local support for vulnerable people.

NHS

Open to members of the public, through national campaign. NHS Volunteer Responders has been set up to support the NHS and the care sector during the COVID-19 outbreak. To do this we need an ‘army’ of volunteers who can support the 1.5m people in England who are at most risk from the virus to stay well.

Here are the ways you can support:, Community Response volunteer, Patient Transport volunteer, NHS Transport volunteer, Check-in and Chat volunteer.

Shropshire Council

Shropshire Council are working with a number of key strategic partners and communities to prepare for the impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19) on communities and residents in Shropshire. More information can be found here 

Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council

Co-ordinating efforts with Do-It organisation, a Corona Responders intiative has been set up. The safe way to volunteer in this time of crisis. You can state how you can help and the’ll connect everything together.

Staffordshire Police

Staffordshire Police has a Volunteer Programme to enable members of the local community to actively engage with their local policing teams and support police officers in keeping our communities safe and reassured. Community engagment volunteers can support in the following areas: Support Safer Neighbourhood Panel Member, Community Language Support Independent Custody Visitor, Vehicle Fleet Support Appropriate Adult, Rural Crime, Police Cadet Service Adults, Community Speed Watch, Independent Advisory Group, Chaplains, Special Constabulary.

Telford & Wrekin Council

We are working closely with our local communities to ensure everyone that needs help can receive it, and that everyone that is well and able to help, can do so.

Warwickshire County Council

Are you looking to help your local community during the COVID-19 crisis, and support those most in need? There activities in providing the voluntary sector organisations within Warwickshire support and guidance.

West Mercia Police

As a volunteer, you will receive training, advice and guidance in order to carry out your role and to develop your skill set. Volunteers bring fresh ideas, raise local concerns and also possible solutions. Each area of West Midlands Police works differently. Therefore the roles that volunteers undertake in each of these areas will be slightly different. Some of these roles include: Chaplaincy, Cadet Leaders, Puppy Walkers, Volunteer Police Officers – Special Constabulary: ‘Specials’ work alongside regular officers and Police Community Support Officers in many policing teams and are expected to commit an average of 16 hours service per month.

City of Wolverhampton Council

As a result of the impact of the COVID-19 / Coronavirus outbreak,Wolverhampton Volunteer Centre (part of Wolverhampton Voluntary Sector Council) is working with City of Wolverhampton Council to link people who are offering to help and those individuals and organisations that are asking for support. Herefordshire Council

Herefordshire Council are working with a number of key strategic partners and communities to prepare for the impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19) on communities and residents in Herefordshire. We are asking for volunteers to help support elderly, frail, disabled, and vulnerable people and families in Herefordshire. If you are able and willing to offer your time, there are a number of areas where we particularly need volunteer support.

Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council

SCVO, as the support body for Sandwell’s Voluntary and Community Sector, is working alongside the Council, Sandwell Public Health, West Midlands Police (Sandwell Borough) , West Midlands Fire Service and the NHS to coordinate the community response to COVID-19 in Sandwell. All volunteers will be given advice on infection control. This includes not going into the home of the person you are dropping shopping off to and washing/sanitising your hands regularly. Council has launched Coronavirus Kindness initiative. If you want to commit to doing a little more than ‘one more thing,’ then a more formal volunteering role could be for you. There are loads of opportunities at the county council and beyond that can fit around your life.
